Songs of Russian emigration, or, Russian song in exile
Already in 1919, the exodus of Russians from Russia began. The country has left several million people. The centers of Russian scattering around the world were Istanbul, and Prague, and Berlin, and Paris, and even Harbin. The first wave of emigration was extremely talented. Still – after all, in fact, almost the entire “silver age” emigrated. It is blasphemous to draw parallels between the fate of those who remained and those who left – who, they say, was harder? Emigration is always a misfortune. The poet and critic G. Adamovich, reflecting on the psychology of emigration, came to the conclusion that the exile does not feel the people behind him, he is doomed to fill the resulting void with himself, alone. It is gratifying that many had the spiritual potential and the “gold mines of nostalgia”. Continue reading
Playing Guitar: Tips for Beginners
So, you have just returned from the store, unrolled your purchase, and now it is already in front of you – a new, smooth, beautiful guitar; I just want to quickly pick it up and play my favorite melody! The only snag is that you do not yet have the knowledge, skills and experience that will allow you to achieve what you want. For some newbies, this becomes an unsolvable problem, many, after playing a couple of days and failing to achieve a result, put the guitar into the far corner and remember it only as an unsuccessful experiment and wasted money. However, by following a few simple recommendations, you will be able to avoid a similar fate, and over time the guitar will become your faithful and irreplaceable friend and helper both on quiet home “gatherings” and among the noisy company, at the fire, surrounded by tents and frozen on the edge of a glade of trees. Tales from Genesis
Genesis experienced three periods in its development, which are well traced in their texts. My favorite of them is the second, which lasted four years between the departure of Peter Gabriel and the aging of Phil Collins into an influential figure in the creative process of the group. Gabriel wrote verbose, mythological lyrics, diversified, but similar in its complexity. With all my love for The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, I cannot boast that I understand the plot of this suite, and for some reason I don’t strive for it. Perhaps his lyrics still lack some necessary element. At least we know that the audience did not relate favorably to his stories told during the hall performances. Continue reading
